Emails may seem like a thing of the past, but email marketing still matters! Do you remember when Instagram was down for almost an entire day last year?! People went crazy. Suddenly, businesses and influencers alike realized that while being able to connect with followers on social media is important, it’s even more important to be able to connect with them outside of social media. That’s where email marketing comes in!
Whether you already have a fleshed out email subscriber list or are just getting started, these tips are for you!
1) Set a goal and a measurable objective!
What do you hope to accomplish by sending the email? Every single email you send should have a defined goal. Your goal will determine how you design the email and the types of content you include. Once you have a goal, then you can set a measurable objective. Here are some examples of how you can measure your email success:
- Click-through-rates (CTR)
- Forms (to capture customer information)
- Sales rates on the day the email was sent
- Promotion code redemptions
- Number of email opens
2) Give purpose to the layout!
Believe it or not, the flow of your email matters. On one hand, your sharing information that you want your audience to know, but you also want them to take an action, so it’s important to design with a purpose in mind. Here are some factors to consider:
- Brand Consistency – your email should include brand elements to help build brand awareness (logo, font, colors).
- Visuals – your email should include fresh content – high resolution images and graphics to keep your audience engaged. You can also add in links, videos, or gifs!
- User friendly – your email should be designed so that it is easy to follow and understand. Don’t make it toooo long!
3) Choose a catchy subject line!
What’s the point of a great email if no one opens it? You need to have a great subject line!
- Avoid ALL caps
- Avoid sales jargon
- Use an emoji!
- Start the subject line with a number
- Keep it short & sweet
- Create a sense of urgency
- Try A/B testing your subject line
